“This place is 100/10 We laid in the outdoor tub and stargazed, we took advantage of the incredible internet (surprisingly hard to come by in NZ) and slept like babies on that comfy bed. Everything about this place we loved- it’s out of the way but close enough to the town to grab dinner or takeaway. It’s about 45 minutes from Lake Tekapo if that’s your thing. Highly highly recommended!”

“Best airbnb my partner and I have been to! The location is perfect, nice and quiet but close to town centre and great in between location to go travelling to and from Mt Cook, Tekapo and other towns. Jana and Sean have clearly put so much effort into the space, its perfect from the architecture itself to the minor details inside. The skylight was a massive highlight, we saw 3 shooting stars before sleep in about 5mins! Jana and sean were super lovely also and all instructions and directions couldnt be easier. Will definitely be returning would give 10/5 stars if we could :)”

“It’s a home away from home. We truly felt at home, especially during the few days of heavy snow that forced us to stay at home! We cooked our home recipes in a well equipped kitchen, watched Netflix movies and enjoyed the scene of snow falling through the large glass window of the cozy living room. And we didn’t see the time passing by. We sincerely thank our hosts, Jana and Shawn, and also their neighbor for their support during those days. We’ll come back for sure, even in winter 😂.”

“We absolutely LOVED our stay at Sean & Jana’s Kowhai Cottage! It was way better than we could have imagined, the pictures just don’t do it justice – it is absolutely gorgeous. The cottage has a character feel yet has all the modern features you could ever need, all of the small touches made our stay even better. Warm slippers for inside use, heating, luxe bedding, skylight above the bed.. Not to mention, everything was clean and spotless when we arrived. Sean & Jana are amazing hosts, it is very evident to see the love they have poured into this cottage. We highly recommend staying at Kowhai Cottage for anyone visiting the Mackenzie region, we will most definitely be back to visit! :)”

We are an outdoors oriented family who enjoy skiing in winter and exploring, hiking and camping in summer. My partner Sean, who is a self employed builder, and myself designed and built our cottage together in 2019. We have a passion for natural materials, sustainability and quality workmanship and wanted to create a space that is relaxing and and a bit special.
Staying in our accommodation on North West Arch allows you to enjoy a bit more space and privacy than being right in the town centre as most properties on our street are larger and often covered in trees. There is very little traffic on the road and rarely any barking dogs – so come and enjoy the piece and quiet our cottage offers.
